Michael Platt, Director

I attained a BSc Hons in Chemistry from the University of York in 1993. The course had a chemical engineering and industrial chemistry bias so I was keen to apply my knowledge to the industrial environment. In 1994 I started work for a water treatment company which was part of a large service group. The company specialised in the building services and lighter industry segments. I have extensive training through an excellent management team who had many years of experience between them.

In 1997 I started work for a global water treatment company in the heavy industry division specialising in power, petrochemical, paper and chemical industries. I enjoyed this environment and it gave me a very good experience of high pressure boilers, high stress cooling towers, and effluent plants. In 2002 I joined Test Water as a director. Test Water was a local company priding itself in customer service and giving the customer bespoke solutions to water treatment and Legionella issues. In 2006 I helped Test Water to merge with Deba Cooling Tower and Engineering Company to form Deba UK Ltd. Our unique selling point is the Deba service plan for cooling towers, offering a unique service for total cooling tower compliance.

Stephen Cooke, Technical Associate

After my 5 year formal mechanical engineering apprenticeship I secured a career in North America in the Cooling Tower industry, and worked there for 10 years for an agency representing the largest global Cooling Tower manufacturer. Initially based in Calgary, Alberta, my career in this very exciting industry involved extensive travel in the USA.

The British engineering skills that I had attained gave a rapid advancement in greater responsibility, to the extent that for most of my tenure I reported directly to the President/Owner of the Company - a gentleman to whom I am truly grateful.

I returned to the UK in 1974 to become a founder Director of Deba Cooling Towers and Engineering Company Limited, providing a very niche service to owners of Cooling Towers who wanted real engineering performance in terms of improvements - “making the existing work better” - a philosophy that has stayed with me all my working life. It became all too apparent that this philosophy needed to be developed further, by taking “real ownership” of the obligations to the customer. They liked the philosophy of “making the existing work better”, and to this end Deba UK Limited was formed to offer a fully comprehensive responsibility - “real ownership” in all aspects of the Cooling Tower business.

I find this philosophy helps in day to day life - the satisfaction of making something work better.

Phil Hodgins, Account Manager

I started my career in Water Treatment in 1989 when I joined a large multi-national water treatment company as a Technical Sales Representative. The business was very focused towards P.S.A and M.O.D sites which gave me a firm foundation in handling large accounts incorporating a wide range of systems and technologies. At the end of 1994 I decided I needed a new challenge and so I joined a small company developing silver/copper ionisation

systems in a number of market sectors. During the next few years I continued to develop both my technical and commercial expertise within the water treatment industry and in 1997 I gained a position in a large surface finishing company’s water treatment division. Over the next 13 years, which have also included two changes in company identity, I have continued to develop the large account business with an emphasis on “best available technology“ coupled with first class service and support.  This brought me right up to January 2010 when I joined Deba UK as an account manager.
